An SEO Healthcheck plus Website Refresh for Private Chef, Suzie Russell of Artisan Epicurean.
Suzie approached me for some advice on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and after an initial chat, it became clear that her website could also use a refresh in order to support her business goals.
Like many busy, small business owners, Suzie had initially built a website herself. It looked good and had all the right components, but just not necessarily in the most effective places.
I did a thorough assessment of the existing site, including checks for GDPR compliance, accessibility and inbound links (a key indicator of SEO). I also delved into the analytics side of things, to see how the website was being used by her potential clients.
I created a design style document for Suzie, which allowed her to see different colour, font and layout options. It also gave me the chance to pick up clues about her aesthetic, and form a coherent picture of what we both wanted the final site to look like.
We opted for a classic palette of navy blue, pink and pale grey, complemented by thin and elegant fonts.
To improve the UX, I built a wireframe of the site using Figma. The aim was to create a clean, uncluttered and classy look, structured for simplicity and maximum engagement.
Having identified that the majority of visitors to the site were using mobile devices (which is now the norm across almost all websites), I used a “mobile first” approach to design. It is really important that the site is just as beautiful and functional, regardless of how it is viewed.
